, i love it even more. that was a recent debate moment between alaska governor sarah palin, and joe biden back in 2008. in earlier interviews, sarah palin had called joe biden obiden. bringing back the classics brings me back to tonight. the presidential debate is looming. the economy will dominate. but look at what is also up for debate. check out segment four. health care. if there is a potential achilles heel where both president obama and mitt romney are vulnerable, it is on this one, folks. two words. obama care, and romney care. and then there is also romney's current health care proposals too up for debate. let's bring in elizabeth cohen to lay out these plans. because this could really unfold in a whole bunch of different ways. the plans are like this. there are so many similarities and differences, exactly how do they differ. >> and voters were so passionate about health because it affects all of us. of all the six segments this is the most interesting one, i'm biased, but still i think people are going to care about this one. let's lay out the basic differences between the
. >> in 2008 with the introduction of sarah palin was the first time the vice presidential debate was ever the highest 01:39:43:rate ed debate. we have this again. >> governor romney, last night, people say he mangled the truth to put it gently. the obama campaign -- they did a smart thing today. got up bright and early this morning realizing they took a loss last night and began pointing out where governor romney had not said what he said before, had not stuck to the truth. however, we learned again last night, if we needed reminding, that there's power in taking the view. listen, i'm frequently in error, but never in doubt. i believe what i'm telling you. and that carries its own power and strength. >> especially when you're talking to 50 million or 60 million people at a time. that is a perfect segue to everything we're doing in the rest of the hour on this show. dan rather, always such an honor to have you. >> thank you, rachel. enjoy to be on. >> "dan rather reports" is on axs tv. okay. we'll be right back. save up to 35% and get 3 years interest-free financing on tempur-pedic. but hu
debate after that at the presidential level. the vice presidential debate between sarah palin and joe biden topped 70 million americans. so the audience is huge. you have been in denver the past three days. what are you picking up from the romney team, from the obama campaign? >> i think the romney team is looking for a big night. they are looking for a game changer for all the talk about how it doesn't have to be everything. this is a big moment for this campaign. they sense nationally that they are on the verge of closing the gap. and in these battleground states some of these states seem like they are spreading apart like ohio. but they think this is a changing moment. i read one interview anecdotally about ann romney saying the first thing mitt romney does when he gets in these debate is he walks on stage, he puts the watch on the podium. he where is on the piece of paper, dad, because of his dad george romney also ran for president. then he finds ann romney in the crowd. and i think that that -- we'll be watching for that. how governor romney handles the first minutes of his pers
the republican nominee, governor sarah palin of alaska, and the democratic nominee, joe biden of delaware. the commission on presidential debates is the sponsor of this event and the two remaining presidential debates. tonight's discussion will cover a wide range of topics, including domestic and foreign policy matters. it will be divided roughly into five-minute segments. each candidate will have 90 seconds to respond to a direct question and then an additional two minutes for rebuttal and follow-up. the order has been determined by a coin toss. the specific subjects and questions were chosen by me and have not been shared or cleared with anyone on the campaigns or on the commission. the audience here in the hall has promised to remain very polite, no cheers, applause, no untoward outbursts, except right at this minute now, as we welcome governor palin and senator biden. [applause] >> nice to meet you. >> it's a pleasure. >> hey, can i call you joe? >> thank you. thank you, gwen. thank you. thank you. [applause] >> welcome to you both. as we have determined by a coin toss, the first ques
romney -- i understand what you're saying politically, but i think it's like sarah palin and biden, she got through and everybody said she did well. >> don't you think it's up to romney to tell -- >> i just want to say that clearly tonight, both candidates are the underdogs. who knows, there's room for both. but there is a difference between a zinger, which is what small campaigns think of their own candidate when they think he's small, but you want to demonstrate strength, and saying this is howly lead the country, those are the moments i paid for this microphone, and it can change the debate. >> mitt romney is closing the gap, it's getting closer in major swing states. stay tuned for that. you've been busy for a dead man. after you jumped ship in bangkok, i thought i'd lost you. >>> surfing is my life now. but who's going to .... >>> tell the world that priceline has even faster, easier ways to save you money. . . on hotels, flights & cars? you still have it. >>> i'll always have it. so this is it? >>> we'll see where the waves take me. sayonara, brah! -presidential debate got more viewers than the presidential debates largely because of sarah palin. >> call me joe. owe biden. >> and i think this will be another very well-watched and spirited debate. two very interesting, very position gnat, you know, in some ways both of them are the heart beat of the campaign. biden clearly more notional guy, excitable guy. ryan certainly more passionate and probably much more articulate when it comes to litigating the specifics of medicare and complex budget issues. you will this interesting ebb, mike this morning nailed it in playbook. this morning listen for watch of signs a lot of comeback stories. before you had this debate performance you had this video that weigh talked about. it was leaked out. it was five years old. but there is a lot of stuff in there that the obama campaign would rather not deal with. there's a couple of polls. one in virginia. one in florida, that showed those states tighting. >> republicans say there is one coming from ohio, republican inturnnal polls. they were sick about ohio. they're feeling better about it. >> any of this controver
